That's the way it should come apart. I just replaced my rear drop links and it was a royal pain since the bolt was frozen to the wheel carrier. I had to cut off the drop link and use plenty of heat and pound it out with a 2 lb hammer while a friend turned the other end. It wouldn't even turn at first. The bolt threads were filled with aluminum/corrosion.
It probably took several hours total.
The fronts are the same way.
