I used to have the same problem with hesitation from the 2k rpm and lower range in all the gears, I replaced the filter and the fuel pump, that didnt fix it, The acceleration did improve with the Fuel Pump replacement cause mine had about 89k miles on it.
I eventually went away on its own and since then I had gotten a CEL for a MAF, replaced it and i guess i decided to atribute hesitation to a MAF that was on its way out but wasnt junk enough to cause a CEL at the first signs of hesitation.
