Did you put it all the way back together before deciding that you didn't like it?

I installed one of the $59 ebay short shifters on my 2003 Boxster S today. Before I put the shift knob back on it felt like it was going to be way too stiff. Once I had it all back together it felt great. I'm really happy with the my short shifter.
