No, you do not need to pull off the door panels to fix that problem. To remove the door bin lids, just lift them to the up position, and you'll see two hinges. Just use a hole punch or paper clip to push the plastic center pins thru the hinges and then use a needle nosed plier to pull them out. The rear hinge has the spring inserted there too, but it sounds like yours broke. Look down inside your door bin cubby to see if you can find it. You can probably order new springs at the dealer. Without the spring there, the door bin lid comes clear off once you remove the center pins of the hinges.
