The 550 edition was a limited run of cars with special colors, engine modifications and a short shifter not used or offered for any other version, giving it some exclusivity over other Boxsters. It's a bit more special than the rest.
Also, with the added power of the 987 came a bit of added weight, even though it lost the spare tire.
