I only drive my BoxsterS on the weekends and I'm not crazy about the idea of using such a well performing car for a boring point a to point b commute full of traffic. The roads are murder on the paint and wheels. I've got one newly discovered 1/4 inch crack in right rear wheel, got a nail in my $1100(mounted) tires yesterday, and I ran over some debris from road construction and I think I tweaked the alignment. at $3-5 a gallon gas in the next two years, 25-30 mpg is extremely expensive for someone who logs high miles.

If I did have to drive every day I'd get a silver PRIUS and I would put every available technology into it. I'd have a fridge for cold beverages, GPS, MP3, Satellite radio, internet, etc. most people have all that stuff already.
But whatever you do please don't consider putting yet another 4 ton SUV on the road for daily driving. People who do this should pay a gas tax and a road repair tax as well.
