The warranty in the US in 1997 and 1998 was only 2 years. The Boxster was getting a bad reputation back then because of engine failures. Porsche had to do something if they wanted the public to buy the Boxster - so they started a 4 year warranty in 1999. A bit of trivia. Funny thing is - the M96 motor is still having problems all these years later. Jeff
