Wanted: Automotive writer to create DIY articles for Pelican Parts

Pelican Parts is hiring! We are accelerating the buildup of do-it-yourself (DIY) articles for our website and looking for a solid writer with good mechanic skills to help build our library. This is a great opportunity to work with a team of car enthusiasts. This can be either a full-time, in-house position, or a freelance gig in which you work on the cars and create the articles from your home or shop.

The articles you create will be posted on Pelican Parts website. Current articles have proven to be an invaluable resource to people that like to work on their own vehicles.

In this role, you will create brief step-by-step guides for a wide variety of repair and maintenance procedures using easy-to-follow language with photos to show exactly how it’s done. Keep it simple and safe: No air tools, no welding, no lifts (jack and stands only), and only the occasional special tool. We’ll also want you to research and recommend articles of interest and value to vehicle owners, plus answer online questions about the articles.

What you’ll need for this work:
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to create simple, clear instructions, plus some background anecdotes when appropriate; knowledge of AP style
  • Experience in auto repair/maintenance – German car experience preferred
  • Photography skills to document the procedures plus some knowledge of photo editing software such as Photoshop
Compensation rate is negotiable, depending on experience.

If you think you have the skills and experience we’re looking for, please submit a cover letter and resume to brad@pelicanparts.com. No calls, please.

Just a thought guys because I posted alot of DIY stuff on Ferrarichat and know how it helps others. How about having participating DIY guys do the write-up, photos, procedures, and compensating them if you use it for your site either in monetary or discount format.

This way, you don't have a DIY on payroll all the time.

Best

Thats a great idea, and it will also encourage more folks to do better write-ups if they know they might get some compensation if it is good enough for the Pelican DIY articles. Its a win-win with more quality DIY articles for the forums and cheaper cost and greater volume for Pelican.

I've done it before for magazines for a Free T-shirt.

Im sure many DIY writers would be elated to do it for a Porsche Cap, T-Shirt or other assorted accessories.
