HP loss after miles.

Interesting video on a 996 documenting just how much horsepower is lost on a M96 motor over the years.

Nothing?!

That's incredible, 243,000 on the clock and it has identical HP figures as new.

My last car was a Celica T-Sport 190bhp, and there was a lot of controversy behind it. If you took it to a dyno you'd only get about 179bhp, as apparently Toyota lied a bit. They pulled 190bhp, but from the engine on a bench with a free flowing exhaust. So the engine COULD push 190bhp, but it didn't. A lot of people thought the lower figures were due to age, as everyone had different figures. One guy spent about £2,000 on N/A mods just to get the original 190bhp.

So coming from that, into a car that you could dyno after 243,000 miles and still get the figure that's on the brochure? Incredible. Just another reason why I stick by my word that cars should be driven and not garaged.

Thanks for the share!

This video proves nothing. You could put a selection of same age mileage 996 on the same dyno and you would get a variety of readings. Comparing them to the book rated power has little relevance as you just don't know what any of those engines out out when they rolled out the showroom.

If they had done a test at brand new in controlled conditions then done the same test in the same conditions and calibrated dyno 243k later then it would have more relevance. But as it is it downs not prove that this particular car has lost nothing.

It's funny you say this, I saw another video after I posted this one again testing a 996, this time with way less miles, to see the "hp" loss in that example the car had lost about 30 hp from factory specs (which the owner assumed to being caused by the previous owners reserved driving style.)

There are lies, damnable lies, and dyno data..............

Wouldn't be impressed if he wanted to sell the car afterwards. :D ;)
