Thats inspiring. Is it a direct install? if not, what needs to be hacked?

idheaton 01-24-2007 11:31 AM

there were 2-3 parts that my old engine had to donate..tho i don't exactly remember which ones other than the flywheel..which is about 1/4 inch less think than the 996 flywheel

a new sport clutch was required.

the motor mounts had to be shaved a bit so right-side of the intake wouldn't rub against the top-front of the engine compartment where the heat shield attaches.

the boxster's ecu has to be reprogrammed to recognize the new engine or you end up with a larger engine that has the power of a stock boxster and backfires... :barf:

new headers and cats are required...tho i ended up using my old muffler because the used dansk exhaust system i got was for an 'S' model and the mounts are different so something would have had to have been fabricated and i was impatient about waiting for that...

CJ_Boxster 01-24-2007 11:35 AM

Oh i see, So the exhaust.... You used the stock non-S exhaust that came with your 99 boxster?

idheaton 01-24-2007 11:43 AM

i was only able to use my original stock muffler...i did have to use the different headers and cats that i purchased

nice man, how much was it to get it installed? aside from the cost of an engine if you dont want to reveal that its ok, u can jsut PM me.
thx

WOW!

The engine compartment looks so cramped. How did you manage to work in there???

Any dyno results? Will it be making the same hp as a 99 carrera?

idheaton 01-24-2007 09:29 PM

you can see approx what i spent on the conversion here

http://986forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9121

i posted in the classifieds and it seems there was more interest in my conversion.... than what i want to sell...

as far as working in there...i didnt personally but i watched (and even helped a little) the mechanic work on the conversion. the car is put on a lift and basically lowered onto the engine and then attached to the mounts and cv's...as far as on the top it was just the a/c, some wires/plugs and a couple of tubes that had to be connected so it wasnt so bad. the serpentine belt was put on after the engine was installed (because of having to hook-up the a/c compressor and that was done by removing an access plate behind the seats.

no dyno but the engine is supposed to put our around 310 hp and 245 torque

Porschekid 01-25-2007 04:55 AM

Man, I would love to see a dyno comparison between that and a stock 2.5... must be quite a difference. Are you going to be upgrading the brakes for the extra power of do you feel it isn't necessary?

idheaton 01-25-2007 06:02 AM

atm i have no intention of upgrading my brakes, maybe if i were going to take the car to the track on a regular basis i would think different but the stock brakes are (imo) excellent and more than sufficient even with the extra power.... not to mention i have pretty much gotten most of the "stupid" kind of driving out of my system where i might need that extra few feet of stopping distance... :D

i really love the feel i get from the pedal as well....i barely press it and get almost immediate feedback, unlike a friend's c6 where the pedal felt kinda mushy and i wanted an immediate response that i was slowing down...hehe...okay i did say "most" of the stupid driving

maybe i will check with my mechanic and see if he knows where i can have it dyno'd... i am kinda curious about what i have on tap myself

BoxsterRS 01-25-2007 07:32 AM

How does it run ? Take a video, no one has done it atleast that I know of.
