Interior Upgrade
I've just finished upgrading the interior of my 2000 Box. I had previously added the gauge rings and the non-smokers tray. I just added a 3-spoke wheel, shifter boot/knob, and Lloyd mats.
BTW, I wanted a silver crest airbag, but didn't have any luck finding one. Has anyone had any luck purchasing a silver crest airbag lately? Now I need to work on the stereo. I already have the PNP rear speakers and OE 6-channel amp, but I need a little more. Maybe I will upgrade the dash speakers. Here are a couple of before and after pictures. ddb |
Just found silver crests to put on your airbag on ebay. Not sure if you wanted just the crest or the whole airbag with the insert, but anyway, here you go...

Looks great, new steering wheel really makes a difference
|
Grizzly, yes I was looking for an airbag with the silver crest already attached. Thanks anyway.
Marc, thanks, I agree, the wheel makes a huge difference! ddb |
Very nice, I like the changes :) Question for you...did you purchase the 3 spoke wheel from the stealer?
|
Thanks HB...
I was fortunate to get a great deal on the wheel new from eBay. I think maybe because the wheel is gray rather than the more popular/common black. I did buy the airbag from a dealer. ddb |
Nice looking interior ddb ;) ....
Wanted to ask you about the stainless sills you have. I have those as well, but thats the first time I think I've seen them with the black lettering. Did you paint those yourself? Or did they come like that? I think that enhancement might look good on my interior as well.... Lou |
Lou,
Thanks. The sills came as is. I'm curious now, what color are your letters? ddb |
ddb,
My sills are just plain stainless with no painting of the lettering. The Boxster logo is etched in there, but not painted. This is how they came with the vehicle. I'm thinking of painting them, just wondering how best to do it so it will look professional...hmmmmmm. My interior is black, the car is Red by the way.... |
Quick question: where did you get the door sills and the shift knob/boot?
|
Nice upgrades. Interesting how little changes make a big difference. Wonder why the guys in Germany can't figure this out on their own?
Good stuff! |
Thanks Brucelee.
Wintermute: I bought the sills and the shifter boot/knob from eBay. The sills came from Harvey who sells the PNP Rear Speaker Kit. The shifter boot/knob came from Brandywine Porsche. I saw one exactly like mine listed on eBay recently. In addition to looking better than the original, it feels a lot better as well. ddb |
Wow, can't even tell it's the same car... looks great. It's a shame those 3-spoke wheels are so expensive.
|
Thanks Porschekid.
Yes the 3-spoke wheels are expensive. I feel lucky to have bought mine for $267 (including shipping) brand new on eBay. I've just added a silver hood crest and installed "non-gold" wheel centers. I'm more determined than ever to add a silver crest airbag. ddb |

PK: Unfortunately the airbag wasn't included. I paid $ 466.73 for the bag from Sunset Imports. Shipping is expensive because the airbag is classified as a "Dangerous Good". It cost $45 to ship it from Oregon to NC. Still a ton cheaper than the cost from my local dealership. PL: I'm now craving some carbon fiber bits to accent my new shift knob. I don't think it ever ends..... db |
im interested to find out how hard was it to switch the steering wheels.
looks very nice btw and u can make some money back by selling your old wheel and airbag on ebay |
djomlas,
It was VERY easy to switch the steering wheel. It took about 10 minutes, and I was going slowly because I hadn't done it before. You disconnect the battery; remove 2 screws behind the wheel to free the airbag (torx I believe); slowly pull the airbag forward; unplug the airbag wire and the horn wire; remove the nut and washer that secures the wheel; make some alignment marks to ensure the new wheel is placed on straight; remove the old wheel and install the new one; reverse the removal steps being sure to torque the wheel nut. At least this is very close to what I did for my 2000. There are probably more detailed instructions/pictures that can be found if you search around in the archives. I thought about selling the old wheel and airbag. I don't think the demand is too great for the old 4-spoke wheels and airbags since most are switching to the 3-spoke set-up. I'm keeping the originals and may put them back on when I sell the car. I would then sell the 3-spoke wheel and bag. What year is your car? What colors and options? ddb |
