Just checked the wheel and airbag, no connectors on the back of them.

ryanjboutin 12-18-2016 05:38 PM

Scratching my head right now.

I keep referencing the Pelican Parts how-to article to remove & replace this motor mount.

I drained the coolant in hopes of removing the coolant hoses, but they're pretty on there and I don't want to tear them.

I got the 4 nuts (w/studs) out. With no coolant, easy to compress the hoses by hand and wiggle them out.

However, on the motor side of the mount, I am struggling.
I got one of the three bolts out.
The other two, left side rear and upper, just stay in there.
One hits a wall, the other hits a bolt.
No matter how I jostle the assembly around, there is just no way the bolts will come out.

Baffled right now. :confused::confused::confused:

Here you can see the left rear bolt head hitting some structure.

Here you can see the upper bolt head hitting another bolt.

https://www.tacomaworld.com/media/li...l?d=1482112286

The Pelican Parts write up describes 4 bolts (purple arrows) keeping the mount in.
I got all of the bolts (light blue) out.

Porsche Boxster Motor Mount Replacement - 986 / 987 (1997-08) - Pelican Parts Technical Article

My entire assembly is loose and wiggles like it's ready to come out, but I am just stumped as to how to get the remaining two bolts out.

ryanjboutin 12-19-2016 06:38 AM

While reading through the comments on the Pelican Parts article, I found this: "Once the mount is unbolted from the body, lower the engine slightly, the bolt should clear the body. - Nick at Pelican Parts "

Am I reading this correctly that the engine can be sort of dropped?
It does not compute that this is possible, shouldn't there be another motor mount somewhere?
Is there really that much play in the engine/transmission mounting points?

I guess I'll let my jack down slowly to see if I can get the other lower bolt out.
If so, fvkc me runnin!
That would have been good information for them to put in the article.

Put a 2x4 under the oil pan with a jack under it.
Slowly lower the engine just enough to get the bolt out

You will also need a long open end wrench to get to the top bolts
HF has them for under $20. Lifetime warranty and decent quality

If you do a search, you will find a few threads on changing the front motor mount

I have all of the bolts loose.

I suppose I should have searched on here too.

I thought the Pelican Parts articles were relatively complete.
I see that some caveats are missing now. hah

Thanks.

Got it. Noobs never search, amirite?

Totally separated, guess I'll find a new one. (166k miles now, no telling how long it's been like that.)

And particlewave, your cog piece arrived.
I reseated the bulb in the housing, and in doing so I heard a pop.
Somehow, the bowl must have been off, or misaligned, or something, because that scheisse is dead nuts spot on now
I did use your adjuster piece, and the lights are true again.
Thank you so much!

Also, GT2 brake ducts.

There is only that motor mount and two transmission mounts, so you can lower the engine a bit, but not so much that you snag any cables or hoses.

particlewave 12-19-2016 06:54 PM

Awesome

If nothing else, you could use some hot glue or silicone to hold that bevel gear in and seal the hole to keep dirt and moisture out.

...I need to check my from motor mount, too. I'm sure it's shot because I can feel the stick move with RPM changes...

Ordered some parts from Pelican and Pedro.

Might as well clean those rads and condensers while the car is on stands.
I'm not entirely sure the radiators were ever cleaned.
But, they're clean now.

Parts on order:

TechnoMount from Pedro
Rear underbody aero/skid plate. (Idk what Porsche people call it.)
Ash tray delete. (Only because my ashtray lid doesn't close.)
Miscellaneous hardware that I've broken.
PORSCHE windshield decal in silver.
NGK spark plugs.
Those little rubber baffles in front of the front tires.
The little bulbs inside of the Litronic headlights.
New front trunk latch trim piece.
Annddddd, a few gallons of coolant with a bit of Water Wetter is on standby until the motor mount gets in.

Then, road test, and PCA Las Vegas regional meet on January the 8th.

I think I might need a driver door microswitch too, from the reading I've been doing.
The driver side window does not drop when I open the door.

Still waiting on the new motor mount to arrive, and some other pieces and parts.
Supposed to arrive by close of business today, we'll see.

In the mean time, did the smoker's delete.
Took all of about 7 minutes.

Link to smoker delete: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine...ers-shelf-console-kit-black/99655209601a03kt/
Yes, it's pricey. I understand.
I would not have done this if the lid on my ashtray would stay shut.

Directions:
Open ash tray, pull it out straight up by the lid after removing the two torx screws.
Pull out the switch surround.
Get a small screw driver and pry the outside guides (just a little bit) as you push on the face of the buttons.
They should pop right out without incident. You should also unclip the light bulb connector.

Install the switches in your new switch surround. White connectors to left side, black connectors to right side.
Function test the 4 switches.
Place the switch panel in the car, line up the new smoker delete trim piece, install new torx screws.

Well, immediately following that post, UPS arrived with my new TechnoMount.

A few differences between what I am guessing is my OEM mount and the TechnoMount.
Mine has three mounting points, the Techno has 4.
TechnoMount rubber is also stamped with "Made in Korea" which I found odd.

Also a cold start after being on jack stands for two weeks waiting for the TechnoMount.

Still waiting on a few miscellaneous parts before I can put the underbody fairing on.

Why is this forum so archaic that a simple YouTube video doesn't embed?

Also refilled coolant with 50/50 and some Water Wetter today.

ryanjboutin 01-14-2017 10:24 AM

Slapped on some proper spacers from ECS with longer lug bolts.
The spacers that were on it seemed less than desirable and the front did not have extended bolts.
Previously the car had 5 mm spacers in front and 15 mm spacers in the rear.
It sat a little too flush for me, and backing in just the 3 mm makes it sit just right for my taste.

Currently running 5 mm front and 12 mm rear spacers

I had problems embedding in the "show and tell" section, but not in other sections. Not sure what's up with that?

Try this again...

I guess not.

ryanjboutin 01-16-2017 11:22 AM

Anyway.

I broke the damn coolant hose support clamps while I was changing the motor mount a few weeks back.
Then I had to wait a little bit for the new clamps to come in.
Fack those things are brittle.
I broke one of the retention tabs off just getting it on the car, with no real force.

This was my solution while I waited for parts to come in.

Complete set of underbody fairings with a full compliment of fasteners is finally installed.

I've successfully brought all of the exterior plasticy bits back to factory specs, with the exception of the right front fender liner.
Not sure why that part is so spendy, but I'll buy one in a few weeks.

Supposed to get an alignment tomorrow, weather permitting.
