Ready for Surgery.

My recently purchased 2000 base 986 is currently taking a little nap before major surgery. Lucky me, as I have a professional wrench-turner in the family who will be operating on my toy. Work should begin next week, and the list is a long one. All the parts have arrived, and my wallet is lighter by 5 large.

On the doctor's menu:
IMS
RMS
Clutch kit/lightweight flywheel
Spark plugs and tubes
Wheel bearings
Water pump, idler pulleys, drive belt, and thermostat
Hoses
Filters and fluids
And anything else we find....($$$$)

We plan to drop the entire drivetrain, so I'll be sure to post pics. Should be interesting, so be sure to check in later.

!

What's the mileage on your rig? Did you consider the front motor mount? Likely crusty after all these years.

Cool! Have you gotten camshaft deviation values? Since engine out and doing IMS, maybe change the cam chain ramps, lifters? Sounds fun. Enjoy

67K for mileage. Motor mounts will be inspected and probably replaced if the old man has any money left. Thanks for the reminder. That one is on the list as well.

That's a really good idea, and probably have a go at the position sensors as well. Thanks!

My little silver beauty is next in line! Work should begin next week as soon as that monster engine is shoe-horned back in the Audi on the lift.

BTW, that Audi received a new engine under warranty, and just for fun, the owner decided to add a supercharger...

I would add "new wheels" to the list, IMHO

Good luck with it

From another 986 owner in NE, good luck with it and keep us posted on the progress.
