Hi John,

don't agree with JRL. For 300 bucks you can rent or buy a GoPro and do it yourself, but this won't be a professional looking video. But i also wouldn't spend money for that.

My advice is to get the car into professional YouTube channels or car magazines and let them to the video filming, photos and promotion for you. If your car is outstanding they will take it. It's a win win situation. Just talk to them and show them what you've done - some text, some photos, maybe your YouTube description videos, or a link to this thread. If they're interested, you will have good promotion and they will have good content.

Regards, Markus

New Tires and rims?

You stated that you had 17" rims on the car. If so did you go up to 18" and did that help the short first gear any??

Not particularly although I can't say I have really tried it out. The car really needs a new R&P to make it more useable, I think a 3.0 would be good. I tried again recently but there are none available, not that I have the money to buy it because they are like $3000 but it would make the car perfect. That and a good LSD.

Axles replaced

In your video I noticed ,that you said you are replacing axles again. I was wondering did you find stronger ones or are you still having problems with them? Thanks

I did say that. This was done more out of "preventative maintenance" rather then need. Since I am going to take the car to 150+ MPH at the half mile drag race, between that and a possible drag launch or two ;) The axles did have just a little bit of play which was probably OK, but rather then risk ruining my day I just put new ones in and will bring a spare set just in case. The new ones have zero play so I'm sure the extra power is wearing the ball bearings in the CV's out.

I have not decided to shell out big bucks for axles yet as they are like $1000+ and I was not yet convinced they are the problem. Although now I have about 3,300 miles on the set I just pulled out and they did have signs of wear, so stronger axles could be something to look in to. For now I have been using the aftermarket FEQ axles which are AMAZINGLY CHEAP!!! My shop cost on a brand new ones is like $66 each :p For anyone who questions if it is worth it to spring for new Porsche axles the answer is HECK NO! FEQ's work great on the V8 car so they should last forever on a stock one.

The axle spacers have done an amazing job and those are a must, if not you will likely break them like I did so make sure you have those.

So I also got a new oil cooler for the car which I installed today! I gotta run now but i'll post a few pictures when I get back.

Thanks!
J

BoxsterLS376 05-04-2016 06:06 PM

Greetings all,

So I felt the oil was probably not as cool as I would like it to be so I decided to buy a cheap oil cooler kit off Ebay and give it a shot. I am pleasantly suprised at what a good kit it is!

The kit came with everything necessary, although to make it work for my application I ended up shortening one of the hoses and changing the fitting from a straight fitting to a 90* swivel. I didn't take any pictures of the kit but included a pic from the auction I bought it from. Seems to be a knockoff of the Lingenfelter kit although I don't know who came up with the design, seems to work well though.

I made 2 brackets to mount the cooler which I welded to the main engine crossbar and located it on the passenger side, basically where the A/C would be, but at this point I'm not pulling the motor to try and get Renegade's crooked ass bracket to work right, so an oil cooler works well there!

I may build a small scoop and rock guard for it, but otherwise I'm pretty happy with it! The kit also uses pretty big -10 AN lines so between the lines and the cooler it added about 1.5 extra quarts of oil so I'm pretty happy about it.

If you've got any questions just let me know!
Thanks
J

Hello John,

nice work as always.

I think a rock guard is a good idea, because oil is important and the front tyres can raise and throw small stones and gravel on a cooler positioned like that.

BoxsterLS376 05-05-2016 06:45 PM

Thanks Markus!

It is tucked up pretty well where hopefully it only gets air and no rocks but better to be safe then sorry! I'm going to use some of the wire mesh I used for the firewall and make a guard and perhaps a small scoop to help guide the air into it a bit better. I'll try and make a video next time I open it up.

Thanks!
J

PS for anyone in the southeast who is interested in checking out the car i'll have it at the Wanna Go Fast 1/2 mile drag race event next weekend the 14th in Clayton, GA. Come on by and check it out!

Working on some stickers for this weekend...

So I decided I needed to flair up the ol' V8 car a bit and talked with a few graphics companies who all seem to be dragging ass so I decided to try and make my own!

Right now what you see on the car is just cardboard taped onto it, the finished product will be done in fluorescent green vinal!

Here are a few ideas, whaddaya think?

Not going to be a Sleeper with those graphics any longer.

BRAN 05-09-2016 10:51 AM

cool idea..., i guess soundwise it will never be a sleeper, even in neutral, so no need to keep it completely "undercover".
A decent red V and a silver 8, next to a silver Boxster emblem would be my cup of tea, but I am old school.
People should look twice to get the hint :D

BruceH 05-09-2016 01:39 PM

I like the side graphics but not the rear so much.

Well ever since I removed the mufflers it's been hard to convince people it is stock! These are mostly for the race this weekend, depending on how they look I may keep them around for a bit~

I like that idea! For permanent graphics that may be something to consider!! For this weekend i'm going for the "you can't miss me" look as I'm trying to draw a bit of attention to it. Hopefully everything arrives in time and if so this will be the final color... :D

I'm definitely up for ideas! Based on the time and what I have to work with this is the best I can come up with for now. Don't suppose we have any graphics designer type folks around here eh?? :)

Thanks!

JJ you know a proper "Race Car" has roundels - you need nice lime green ones - at least on the doors - possibly the hood and trunk too. :)

the V8 centered under Boxster probably would look best, but dang, there is the spoiler

... i start to like the green the more i look at it :D

I like that! It is a shame the spoiler would get in the way. That is why I tried it on the bumper in one of the pictures to try and avoid the spoiler...

I definitely dig the ideas so keep em coming!

Possible dream race this weekend!

So I almost forgot to mention that I just confirmed today that there will in fact be a Porsche 918 at the WannaGoFast 1/2 mile drag race this weekend!!

I've put the word out and called him out for a race through his shop so we will see!

I know he'll smoke my ass but just to line up with him and have his pass me at full tilt will be amazing to see!!!! :p

Hope to see you all there!
J

Hi John,

because the car now has an american muscle and rumble – and is some kind of hot rod – how about a very simple:

http://www.hansen-styling-parts.de/W...machine_A4.jpg

All the URL stuff you can put on the number plate holders (if you have some).

918 - hm, maybe he wins, but your car will sound better. :D ;)

Greetings all,

I know I posted this in a separate thread, but wanted to make sure it was attached here as well~

Well semi-successful day at the Wanna Go Fast event in Clayton, GA today! I'm not sure if anyone else has run a Boxster at these type of events so I'll unofficially say I have the worlds fastest Boxster!! Although I know there are a few out there badder then mine i'm sure!

I was able to get 4 runs in until I broke the brand new axles :D DOH!!! I was expecting it, hence the reason I trailered the car to the event rather then drove it! Even brought spare axles but it was to late to bother trying to repair it trackside.

If nothing else I'm a consistent driver!!
Run 1 vs. 928 - 141.3317 mph - WIN
Run 2 vs. 2014 SVT Mustang - 142.0455 mph - WIN
Run 3 - vs. 498 RWHP C6 Corvette - 142.4953 mph - LOSS :( Got me by 3 MPH but it was neck and neck!
Run 4 - vs. 2017 Stage 3 Roush Mustang 670+ HP - 142.4953 mph!!!! - LOSS :( Dude hit 150.1 GOOD JOB! Not too shabby for something he just bought off the showroom floor and is still under warranty!!

So if you look at runs 3 & 4 - That's no typo!! Back to back 142.4953!!! WooHoo! All 4 runs averaged to be within .29 MPH of each other - I'd take the Pepsi challenge against the PDK anyway with those numbers ;)

Hopefully the videos came out OK - Of course the best race vs. the vet I don't think I turned on the camera.

Wanna ride shotgun in the Boxster LS376/480 for a full 1/2 mile?!?!? - Well then here ya go! https://youtu.be/IQnfV9x5uGA

OH YEAH! Just in case you guys don't think racing like this is exciting or dangerous - tell that to this poor little guy!!

Yeah that is stuck as F about 150 feet down a hill off the end of the runway - Racing is dangerous kids!!!
