Colors to go with Black

So, I have a black car, I'm trying to decide on the colors to coordinate with the car.

I will be getting new rims for the summer and tirerack offers a lot of colors. I will be painting the calipers too.

I ordered the headlight retrofit from nine8six, and decided on gunmetal colored with white angel lights. Unless someone thinks another color combination would be better.

I just want to hear your opinions.

A contrast that I personally like for the black-on-black sport cars is black wheels with a 1/4" thick RED stripe + RED calipers and of course, 30% tinted windows. Looks bad boy.... signed "not a girl's car". This could work well with your gunmetal gray CGT style projectors.

If you want a perfect balance (looking at from front-end), go for gunmetal gray wheels. For info, the projectors' bezel you are most likely to go for will have the same color as on the wheels on this picture.

You could go a notch further and go for black wheels, red stripe/calipers, and RED bezels for your projectors. There you'd have a true turn head Porsche for sure

RE red wheel stripes/calipers, here goes a better angle of the combo. Boyz will be boyz ;)

I think you nailed it Fred:cool:

Fred,

You're making me want to do Red Headlight Retrofit now... Red Calipers... and Red Stripe around Black Rims or just Gunmetal Rims...

Stop making me be indecisive!

Or I would make everything gold.

RaisedOnPorsches 01-02-2014 09:32 AM

Personally I'd go with the red calipers, red pinstriped wheels, and red projector rims. If you wanted even more red, add red side mirrors, de-ambered lighting all around, and red seat belts. Actually the red seat belts are pretty much a MUST.

If you go the golden route, there is no half-way: ;)

But personally I find this option :barf:

alanqning 01-02-2014 09:42 AM

I meant only Gold Rims, Gold headlights, and Gold Calipers

BruceH 01-02-2014 10:13 AM

No, definitely the red.

Are Red Headlight Retrofit going to be too much Red?

BruceH 01-02-2014 10:23 AM

Not if you go with the red wheel stripes. The silver headlight retrofit would still look great if you feel it might be too much. I think it would look pretty slick.

No it wouldn't, given you have the wheels and caliper set-up in RED as well it would look rather slick if you ask me. I also agree with RaisedOnPorsches RE the RED seat belts. Nice one right there (yummy actually)

Bear in mind; it could become a problem if one day you find nicely priced meshed BBS gold wheels with staggered silver lips ;) If you go for RED projectors, then you are kinda stuck with the red stripes, red caliper set-up for a long time.

Your car, your choice buddy! Sorry for being very unhelpful again ;)

alanqning 01-02-2014 03:31 PM

With Gunmetal Headlights, I do have more choices with everything else.

RaisedOnPorsches 01-02-2014 03:43 PM

What Fred, you mean we cannot just plasti-dip our projector lamp housings too? ;)

Another possibility would be to paint (or plasti-dip) red some of the vents (front-bumer and side intake). Then there is always the lettering stripes. And the 550-style tail lights. Welcome to the slippery slope...

I think fear of that slope has helped keep my 986 stock all these years. :D

Nine8Six 01-02-2014 04:01 PM

lol. Ouch, I can see the rubber bubbling off already ;)

I think Alan is pretty spot-on RE his gunmetal choice. Although he would have, by far, the coolest B-on-B Porsche car around having all those RED stripes/calipers/projectors ;)
(just to make it a tad harder to decide for you mate muahaha)

No-no red projectors for black car, look what I just found. Stick to Gunmetal gray (is my vote x1,000)

At this point, I can add any color calipers.

Perfectlap 01-03-2014 08:46 AM

My favorite on black is a gunmetal wheel.
