Best Cayman spy pics yet
|
My guess is that this will ultimately be a very pretty coupe.
I guess my issue is that this is so obviously a Boxster that Porsche should dump the Cayman name and rename it so that the relationship is clear. Also, if this gets 280+ HP, I want that in a roadster too! |
I already know that car is gonna kick ass. More torque is never a bad thing. It's funny reading some of the comments from 997 owners. They're getting really defensive. :p

Nice butt! It's obvoius; Porsche had a restraining order on Chris Bangle.

I 100% agree Bruce.
IMO What they should do (or have done) is assign a number to the Boxster family like the 911. Under 911 they have Carrera, Targa, Cabriolet, Turbo etc but all based on the same family. It would have made logical sense to say, okay the Boxster family is the 550 family (or what ever) and under the 550 family we have Boxster, Cayman etc . . . . That would at least go with the other model line and it would also draw a clear path from the Boxster to the Spyder which I think is lost on a lot of people. If nothing else it will help keep the Porsche website from getting cluttered. |

Let's be careful about using copyrighted Photos
Guys,
I know we all like instant gratification but we also don't want to run afoul of any copyright laws. Next time let's post a "URL" that forum folks can link to. Thanks Richard |

Unless you know specifically of issues, I've seen pics from other websites posted on a ton of forums without any issues for years. Plus, it says Autoweek right on it. It's not like jwocky is claiming it's his or something. Not trying to tell you how to run things, just a suggestion... - |

It is apparent that the pics are from the Autoweek.com website. You can go to the site and read the copyright notice @ http://www.autoweek.com/page.cms?pageId=13 . The punchline is don't copy & paste the pics/text without prior written consent. This is pretty standard text. I can't comment on other sites but they probably were violating some copyright too. All I'm suggesting is we stay clear of any copyright infringement laws by posting URLs. So now let's get back to enjoying the pics! |
Just thought I would say some stuff that I've read about the Cayman...
There is a broad misconception that this is going to be a Boxster Coupe. It is more like a Mid-Engine 911. I know some of you are going to disagree, but lets think about it. Its getting a 315 hp 3.4L Flat-6 which is creaping ever closer to the prestegious 911. I have a feeling that this is going to lead to a increase in performance in the 911 which is something that is greatly needed. I am definately excited for this vehicle to come out. It is going to be jaw dropping... |
How do you come to the conclusion that it's more 911? It's based on the Boxster chassis. Wheelbase will be nowhere near 911 numbers (even if they were to stuff an engine in the back seat of the 911). Fact is, there's nothing 911 about the Cayman...other than 911 ass kicking.

I am so getting one those... I love 'em...
|
There is no such thing as a mid engine 911. To my knowledge, there never has been one and the 997 is of course, rear engine.
Sorry but to have ANY consistency in models, logic etc, this new coupe is a Boxster. Calling it after a Carib island doesn't change the laws of physics or logic. IHMO! |
Call me crazy, but i'd take a boxster with a hardtop over the coupe any day
That coupe looks great nonetheless. |
The only thing 911 about the Cayman is the engine...3.4L flat 6. Like Lux said...it's a boxster chassis..not 911.

Does it come with that 'anti-spy photograph' tape around the headlights?
3 months later and those Japanese look headlights still have not grown on me. If it does come with the silver tape put me down for yellow/red with BBS RS-GT wheels. :) The Cayman: Best Performance for the buck Porsche? Best Peformance for the Buck Porsche/BMW/Audi/Merc (German) sports car? |
Ill play Devil's Advocate here and ask a question, was the GT1 a mid engine 911?
If the Cayman S is everything they say, then I would have no problem saying it is the best bang for your buck Porsche. |

I hope they come out with a Cayman RS6.
1-6 speed manual (only! no tip or paddles) 2-Kevlar seats 3-Harness belt mounting points 4-Light weight Wheels, lightweigh...EVERYTHING! 5-Full Coil over suspension 6-Carrera GT brakes 7-aero kit 8-built in G-tech 9-the most important....a red engine start button. keep the weight down Porsche it will kick the ass of every other Porsche. by the way, do you notice the intakes look cheesy on the 987 (like MR2) but look pretty nice on the Cayman. Must be the coloring. |
