Thanksgiving wash/detail/photoshoot
 

I spent 5 hours washing, waxing, clay-bar, detailing, leather conditioning, etc. yesterday. I lost daylight before I could take some good pics without a tripod, but here is one I liked.

Ha! Looking good.
Did the same thing this long holiday, both the boxster and the outback got basic detailing. I didn't bother taking any pics... too tired!

i love clean cars, and i love cleaning cars as well (well my car at least) hehe

I spent two 8 hour days (only stopped long enough to eat) over the previous couple weekends detailing mine.... and I didn't even touch the interior.

Then I took it for a 1,000 mile drive over Thanksgiving. Turns out you can make it from the Oregon border to San Francisco on just over 3/4 of a tank. (got about 29.5 mpg)

Yeah I could have definitely spent a lot more time on it, but I was in a hurry, I had to rush back to atlanta. The car was filthy from the previous owner, though. I don't think she ever cleaned the wheels. I was amazed how clean I got them , but there is a little pitting between the spokes.

I'm going to try to keep it as clean as possible, but I don't have a place to wash it where I live, so I'm going to have to learn the waterless washing technique and find some good products. Luckily, I get to park my car in a covered garage every day at work so it doesn't see the sun much or get dirty very quickly. I guess it kind of makes my $90/month parking fee worth it somewhat.

I was very surprised to see my car get 28.5mpg during the thanksgiving highway travels. I know this isn't a "true" sports car with this 2.7L, but I didn't think I would get economy car like MPG. I def don't get that around town though, but that's my fault...

The June 2007 Excellence Magazine recently did a 2.7 Porsche revisited article
where they put the 2.7 Cayman head to head against the RS.
Believe it or not the RS which won at LeMans had less power than any of the modern 2.7 engines from the Cayman and Boxster. Victory has more to do with weight than power.

As for the waterless washing its definitely the way to go, even if you do have access to a hose. Doing a full on bucket and hose wash every week is bad for the paint. Try the optimum No Rinse from autogeek.net. You'll still need to take it to one of those coin operated car wash places to water rinse the soft top with an oxo feather tip brush, which I think you can get at autogeek or detailcity.com as well. weekly rinsing will keep the top looking new. A properly cared for canvas top can last 20 years. Don't forget to get the Raggtopp kit.
