The Guys at Work

So, there are a bunch of car guys at my office. One of them is married with children, has an Aviator and an E350 for kid hauling, and a '69 Firebird convertible as an escape pod. His garage is a maze of bikes, scooters and baby doll carriages. Another is divorced and lives in a really nice condo with garage parking, but has no decent place to toy with his Viper GTS. My garage frequently plays host to them, so they can service and detail their cars, have a beer and hang out. They are always welcome to my lift, tools, supplies, whatever. In return, they always show up with food and beer. Cool.

Today, they came over in the morning. They called last night to be sure it was O.K. They each wanted to do a fall detailing before the weather turned cold. Of course they were welcome, as long as they understood I wouldn't be capable of helping. They'd have to move my cars and my junk out of the way themselves, and do whatever they wanted to do without me.

It didn't take me too long to become suspicious when they came in one car and it remained outside until well into the afternoon. I hobbled down to the garage and found exactly what I'd suspected. These two clowns came to detail my car, not theirs. How cool is that? My wife, who isn't home today, knew the whole time.

Using the same stuff we've been using for their cars, they clayed my Boxster with Griot's Clay, rubbed it out with Menzerna Intensive Polish, finish polished it with Menzerna's Micro Polish and hand waxed it with Pinnacle Souveran. They even took some before and after pictures for me. And yes, they brought lunch!

I'll tell you what, it looks like a million bucks. It's hard to show you how good silver looks in photos, but take a look. Does this car look 11 years old to you?

Aren't friends the best things to have?

Grizzly, your car looks great. Awesome story. You can always judge a person by the quality of their friends!

Looks sweet! Those are some awesome friends you have.

Get well soon.

No, it looks more like 11 days old!

The front bumper, diffusers, spoiler, painted bumperettes, painted roll bars, chrome script and wheels really sets your car apart from most. Nicely done.

What kind of exhaust?

You can tell a lot about a person by the deeds others do for them in less than perfect times. You must be doing something right to have buddies that will go to that length to cheer you up!

Keep it up and feel better!

Great story.... great looking car. Your excellent taste in friends is exceeded only by your impeccable taste in cars/color combos!!

BeaUUUUTIful baby. I need more friends like that. Do I foresee a debilitating relapse of your ailin’ back come this time NEXT fall? An annual event, perhaps? (Might be pushing your luck I suppose…)

How's Rooftop Kitty?

Thanks for all the comments, guys. Before you draw halos above these jokers' heads, though, you should know that they've also been responsible for mailing me boxes of broken glass and fake invoices from the school system for the damage I did to their school when I got hurt.

Nah, of course you guys are right. I've been very fortunate to have good friends around me...even if they did fill my office mailbox with bullets when I was shot and give me a fire extinguisher for my birthday the year I got burnt.

Of course, I would never pull any pranks like that. ;)

Hey look! This is my 1300th post. I really have to find something to do. :o
