My dream
My turn,
This is my toy, that I have owned for about 15months now. A '98 Boxter in dark blue with Beige interior. Well optioned with Cruise, Porsche Sound package, trip comp, silver tunnel and silver gear knob. Only external mod is the addition of 18mm wheel spacers all around. Makes it look awesome even with only 17" wheels. |
How differently does it drive with the wheel spacers? I am considering to add them on mine.

LOOKS NICE... i bet everyone looks when they go by..

I have 18" Sport Techno wheels on mine with 5mm spacers all around. My wheels have a much bigger offset so I can't use anything higher than 5mm. It fills out the wheel wells great and makes the wheels look bigger and the car look lower. Here is a pic.

I have the 18" carrera lights and I am looking at wheels spacers. Problems is i'm not sure if how wide I can go with these wheels. I would like to go as wide as possible without rubbing/scraping issues. Can anyone offer me some info on this issue. I'm not sure what the offset of my wheels are. Maybe someone out there has Carrera lights with spacers?

I've haven't noticed any difference to drivability or handling. If anything they would lower the centre of gravity slightly.
The biggest issue with spacers would be any rubbing on the front wheels and potentially the rubber hanging outside the wheel guard (against most road regulations, certainly the UK and Oz, not sure about the US). As you can see in my picture (above), I only have the standard 17" wheels, and I think the 18" sets have larger offsets already. Talk to your friendly Porsche dealer for advice. Also, you don't need Porsche authentic spacers, mine are from H&R. |
pic / info on my setup with spacers
I've got stock 18" turbo twists with stock size tires (225 front, 265 rear) on my car, and it's been lowered approx 20mm (almost an inch)...I'm running techart spacers 15mm front and 21mm rear with no problems whatsoever. I agree with everyone on this thread about the aesthetic benefits...I think they make the car look simply tits.
I am in the market for new wider wheels as I'd prefer to get the same look without the spacers. here's what mine looks like. |
