Got the 00 Boxster S home tonight
After a pretty tough day working through all the hoops, including a PPI and final negotiations with the seller, got our new 2000 Boxster S in Speed Yellow home tonight. I'm pretty wipped at the moment but had to log on to post a quick picture and look up the option codes.
I am psyched to say the least. The car has 24K miles on it with a nice set of options to include Litronics, heated seats, Bose sound system, computer, and the mechanics comment that it doesn't get much better than this for a used car. Also came with an aftermarket Borla exhaust that sounds sweet as punch. While decoding the options, I was pretty pleased to find that it has a limited slip differential. My question: is limited slip an option that normally comes with an S model or was it something ordered special? I'd also like to say I"m looking forward to meeting up with my NoVA Dorki brothers. You know who you are... I've attached at least one pic with more to follow soon. |
Very Nice!
I like the spoiler sticker! Also, if you need any help decoding your option code let me know, I am pretty good at finding the codes. Not sure about the differential, but I think it might part of the PSM. |
Thanks...that's right...forgot to mention it has TCS (PSM?).
|
Borla exhaust? That looks more like the PSE(Porsche Sport Exhaust) to me. Can you take more pics from below the car?
|
You can have a TC (Traction Control) system or the Porsche Stability Management (PSM). I honestly doesn't see the difference between them but I don't have either. I agree it looks like a PSE exhaust.
|
Are you sure it has the BOSE system? If I remember correctly BOSE was introduced in the 02' 986 S.....although I did talk to someone who swore his 01' S had BOSE stamped on his door grilles and on a subwoofer in the rear compartment.
|
You can add the Bose system to any 986, it was an option but is also an aftermarket kit. So it could have been added by a previous owner. :D
|
very nice car , congrats.
personally, i dont like how that exhaust sits, you can clearly see it and its too low in a sort of way. maybe diffusers? |
congrads on the car, i love speed yellow its my fave boxster color

Very nice! I like the Porsche Sport Exhaust (PSE). I don't think there was a factory LSD.
We need more pics! :) |
I saw the kit a while back. It was a link in a forum post either on here or renntech. I don't have the link though. :D

Here is a setup sold by Suncoast. It doesn't say Bose in the description and I can't read the name on the speaker grill. Damn, it sure is pricey.

^ That's the one I am talking about.
And to turbo23dog, we need some more pictures and a few of the speakers to let you know if you have the Bose system. |
I'm running between meetings and sneaking a peak while choking down a sando...
Got it on the Porsche Sport Exhaust. The seller told me it was a Borla and that information was passed to him by the person he bought the car from. I Googled Porsche Sport Exhaust and found several entries; the picture below posted at http://e-partssales.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=P&Product_Code =00004420012 is obviously what I have on my car. |
I have the Bose complete package on my 01 Boxster. It was a factory option. Comes with the amp in the front trunk and E.Q. for the stereo. It deletes the cup holders. It doesn't have the Bose stamp on the speaker grill, but is on them if you take them out and look on the back of them. Same thing for the rear speakers. Also came with the 6 disc CD changer mounted next to the amp as part of the package. Radio/CD manual says Bose also. I think in 02 they started putting the Bose badge on the outside of the speaker grill.

I do have an equalizer in the lowest position on the center bank. Has buttons for Rock, Classical, etc, plus other buttons I haven't even figured out what they do. Will find out more tonight.

Finally got some time to get a few pictures of the new car. Its a Speedster and there were no directions on how to mount the humps. After a bit of study, we finally figured it out. At first I thought mounting the humps was more work than it was worth but after it was all done, they grew on me quickly and I really like the look.
|
Speed Yellow is such a cool color! Humps look good. The last photo is very good.
Dude, you got a lot of leaves to rake. |
I believe that is the premium sound package with DSP (the equalizer that you guys are referring to) I don't think they started using Bose components until my03. The prior years to 03 were manufactured by Becker and Nokia. A great place to verify exactly what options your car came with is on this site: http://www.kindel.com/Porsche/options.asp Just put the codes that are located under your front hood on the white Porsche sticker. This will have a bunch of the 3 digit codes. Nice car and from the looks, well optioned too.

Turbo 23
Speed yellow definitely looks good on 986 and the previous owner really put a lot of options/upgrades on it. The car really needs the upgraded tail lights 03+ which you can get for less than $200 and install yourself in less than 10 minutes. It really brings the car to a more modern look. I can also do without the Speedster badge inside the car since there really is no Boxster "speedster", but that is perosal choice. I really like the look of the Speedster humps, the colored console and roll bar. That is definitely not a Borla exhaust I have ever seen and is the PSE unless Borla has a new knock off of the PSE. I think you have the upgraded POrsche stereo and not the Bose, but who cares as you should be listening to the soundtrack from Stuttgart and not the radio anyway. Let me know if you ever head south toward Richmond or I'll do the same if I head up to NOVA. Where are you exactly in NoVA? later, |

That is correct. The Bose stereos don't have equalizers. Also, Busmatti you are correct...there was and never has been an LSD option for boxsters. |

My 02 has the BOSE system. BOSE is written on speakers and also on the bottom (visible only when part removed) of the sub enclosure behind me. |
A true mechanical LSD was not and is not a factory available option for the Boxsters. It may have PSM.. it may have TC. But any type of LSD effect is based on ABS used to limit slip of a spinning wheel.

JWilson,
What does the upgrades taillights look like? I have a 2000 Box S and am interested in them. |
