OK....never mind....as I wrote in another thread and good "flooding" of lock specific cleaner and lube seems to have done the job and now I also get a much more definitive steering wheel "clunk"...

Not sure if my sort of "flooding" it with lock lube did the trick but the 23 year old lock works great now and the steering wheel lock "clunk" sound in much more "distinctive" than before. ALL good!
