Dont forget to read the level at least 10 -15 minutes after you turn off the engine. Before that the oil is not fully returned to the bottom of the engine (pan).

Whatever the reason, do yourself a favor and change your filter housing. It is cheap (about 25 usd) compared to a blown engine !
