Sounds like your clutch fork is being misaligned from the other end (bellhousing end). If this is the case, you need to take the transmission out to get the clutch fork back in to it's correct place.

I changed the ignition switch from underneath the dash and found it to be fairly easy task with the exception of messing around with my eyeglasses to see what I'm doing :rolleyes:

There was an issue with rear subrame braking/cracking on earlier Boxsters. I beleive that for the model year 1998 or 1990 Porsche changed the rear subframe to a stronger one.
