I went to have my '98 Boxster smogged here in California.

The car passed the actual emissions test, but it failed the "OBD System Checks". I did reset the OBD to clear some misfire...

I believe '98 Frunk release is manual cable release only (at least on mine it is. The Truck has electronic release via key fob). So I would say something mechanical--kinked cable somewhere?

My Boxster runs hot in the recent heatwave in my area. Search on google brings up some sort of a "hack" by using jumper wires to force the fans to turn on before things start to get too hot.

Yes, the spring mechanism is in the Ignition switch, so it the key doesn't spring back correctly I'd say 99% chance that you need a new ignition switch. Before I replaced mine, it wasn't springing...

Sounds like you need a new ignition switch. Inexpensive part, but a PITA to change. Not recommended if you're at all claustrophobic (or have large hands)!

Thanks for the feedback. The windows do drop as they're supposed to, so I suppose it might be the actual lock mechanism...

Ignition switch is new as is the battery, so I think I can rule those...
