Im aware of TSB's for engines and transmissions for the boxsters and I'm weary of being on the verge of a failure.

Cars back with its owner now so no recording available but it is clearly the sound of the forks moving around when you engage different gears.
I'm in no hurry to buy so I'll check out other ones.

I had a getrag in a Z24 chevy back in the day that made some noise, 100LS audi was very quiet as was my E30 track car.
The boxster sounds like ur banging wrenches...

Possibly buying a buddy's 2005 Boxster S w/ a 6spd manual w/ 60K miles.
the amount of clangng the gearbox makes when you move around the gear selector is really noticable... almost alarming.
