What I wanted to establish was whether I could machine my 2.5 carrier for clearance for the 2.7 crank. Unfortunately my carrier is damaged. So it won't be reused.

Some people claim these cranks can't be ground because the hardened layer is too thin. Did the machinist test the hardness of the reground rod pin?

I just measured my own crank and found 0.0012"...

Unfortunately they don't help when the owner is an idiot and forgets to fasten the coolant cap.
