Trick to removing radiator strakes

Is there a trick to pulling these off? Looks like they should come straight out, but it takes more force than I was willing to do at first. Does it help to angle them up or down?...

I don't know that you need to flush with water - I suppose if you wanted to make sure EVERY LITTLE BIT of the old coolant got out, you could, but you are draining from the lowest point on the car, so...
