I had a similar symptom in my Austin Healey 3000... It turned out that the piston in the slave cylinder got jammed 1/2 way through its stroke. Replaced the slave cylinder and was off and running...

I used the paintscratch.com kit with the flex primer and they came out great... And I am no master at painting. There is enough there to repaint many times should you mess up.
