I had the same issue on my 97 Boxster and it...

I had the same issue on my 97 Boxster and it turned out to be the gear linkage, on mine it was a plastic joint which cost me £60 to have repaired.

My battery went flat on my 986 (1997) Boxster and for some reason the drivers door lock just spins around???? I have managed to open the bonnet via the cable...
