I had a similar 'leak'. Turned out to be the AOL dumping a lot of oil in the inlet which made its way in between engine and transmission. Went away after replacing the AOL and cleaning the inlet.

Running the AC forces the fan on at high speed, that's why the temperature goes down. All points to a broken load resistor preventing the fan to run at low speed.

AOS starting to fail, fouling up the throttle body and MAF which is causing the idle fluctuations. AOS is cheap, putting it in is a pita.
