Good choice on the RX-7. I had an FD when I lived in Japan. It is the only car I've driven which was more fun than the Boxster.

Don't forget the RMS

No mention of RMS replacement, though I assume you did it. Just a note, for anyone doing the job. RMS is about $10 (?) and takes 10 minutes to replace while you're in there.

The connector can be tricky

If you're trying to disconnect the connector without looking at it, it may be a little tricky. IIRC, there is a sliding collar which locks the connector in place

It will be a different pattern. Cheapest-buy four locking lugs and replace all. Better- buy all new bolts, to ensure they match. They aren't too expensive through Pelican.

Includes the CV joint, but not the wheel bearing.

Sounds like the joint is bad, not the bearing. You should be fine with just the driveshaft assemblies. The castellated retaining nut should be replaced also.

I just did mine this weekend, and had the same gap.
My guess is that the rubber pieces are just to prevent metal-to-metal contact if the engine flexes sideways.
