i just noticed you said you have a 2.5 so its definately a 5 speed. i suggest you just try and find a boxster 5 speed shift knob/boot. see em all the time on ebay.

the shift knob/boot from a 996 will fit your 99 boxster and it easy to change. the 997 will not, different design.

keep in mind the 996 is a six speed. if you have a boxster S then youre good....
