Well the headlight switch is easy to replace and the cheaper part will most likely be fine. I replaced one with a used on from low mileage car a few years ago and it and it worked great.

I've done a couple of mail order Box tops and never had an issue with creases from shipping after installing. General rule is to install the top, fasten it closed and park in the sun for a few days.

Any chance during the repair process you messed with the switch on the dash? I can't remember if the connector is keyed or not but it'd certainly be a spot that might make thing run opposite.
