Ok, JFP, you were right the first time... I think if I lived in Arizona, I'd stick with Royal Purple, but in Chicago, it's a noticable difference below 50 degrees.

yep only 23K miles on an 11 year old car... I drive it on the weekend, 8 miles to the train station with underground parking and store it for 5 winter months...

yes
yes, simply remove the filter and only the oil in the filter will drain out you don't need to drain the entire oil. I did this when my oil was overfilled and I needed to pull out 1/2 quart.
