Suggestions on 18” tires for 2006 Cayman S
Hi. So many opinions on Tire Rack for tires. Anyone know of what to avoid, what lasts for a few years-road driving only- and has decent grip?
Thanks |
Our Caymans are equipped with Yokohama ADVAN Sport A/S+ tires. They provide good grip and wet weather performance. I've bought three sets so far with no problems.
My wife's first set lasted 34K miles; I'm at 15K miles with plenty of tread left. I've read that the A/S don't provide the grip of a dedicated summer tire, but I'd rather have an all-season tire that performs well in all seasons (in Dallas) and lasts long, than a summer-only tire that wears out after 10K miles. Just sayin'............ TO |
You will get opinions all over the place. All tires are a compromise in one way or another: price, grip, noise, wear - pick your priorities.
My personal favorite for everyday driving is the Kumho Ecsta V720 - they are decent at all of my mentioned compromises. |
BrantyB is correct - you ask 5 ppl what brand to buy and you'll get 7 answers.
TireRack is a good place to look. If you do a deep dive on any tire, you can go a bit deeper and find a chart that compares that tire and other similar tires by approx 8 categories - ride, mileage, wet, dry, snow drivability, etc. You can pick the features that are important to you and zero in on the tires that fits them. Of course these scores are based on people's opinions. If you dive into the feedback section, you'll get 1 person who says it's the greatest tire on earth and the next ad will say it's pure crap. |
