Random tube next to battery ??

While I was doing my Litronic install this past weekend, I noticed that I have what looks like a washer fluid hose randomly hanging out next to the battery. The factory plumbing for the washer nozzles is fine and all works, but I'm really not sure what this is.

The tubing is clear, and typical washer-fluid-ish size. Any thoughts before I ask the shop?

That's the vent tube for the battery.

Alright...so if this was for the factory batter (I have an Optima now) should I just leave it alone or ??

Optimas don't need ventilation, so yeah, just tuck it away.

Which optima Battery?

I noticed that several members have been putting the optima batteries in their cars. I called the Corp. and they told me they do not make an Optima battery for my 2001 986. No application, No fit.
Are you guys using different brackets or does it all in actuality fit? Which Optima model battery are you using, red, yellow? I am interested because I have heard good things about the battery.
Thanks
JW

There are plates that you can buy or make to fit the red top 34r. I've also posted a DIY on a method without making a plate. A search will show up everything you want to know.

I would plug the vent tube so that no crap gets into it.

You may want to use it at a later date.

IMO!

We just modified some aluminum plate to hold down the one side, very simple to make it work. I did plug the factory vent tube, just to be safe.

Random tube near battery

This is for venting of hydrogen gas produced by battery. Since battery is inside of a closed space, Germans thought venting to outside was a good idea.
