While the factory does not officially support racing Boxsters (harrumph), some free spirits are working on it.

Can someone please tell me why they would leave the climate control in the car if it is meant to be raced?

I'll bet the climate control panel was left there to cover a metal support that could take off a kneecap. You can be sure that there is no functioning A/C, and probably no heat. It's just padding.
