Anyone familiar with 981/991/982/992 steering rack?

Just wondering if anybody is familiar with these. I have most parts to convert my power steering to electro-hydraulic version (using Volvo power steering pump), but came across some people using it for EV conversions (in VW cars). Seems very simple actually as it mainly needs power and CAN speed info.

Mechanically the rack doesn't look that different and seeing how the whole main concept of the 981 differs only a little from the 986, I was wondering whether it could fit. Price also isn't that bad etc. Still a bit pricey for just getting one for curiosity though.

For people known to this rack, would it be possible to measure the distance from inner tie-rod to inner tie-rod? And maybe between the mounting points?

Mark, if you can wait a couple of weeks I would be happy to meassure mine for you.
Right now my 981 is parked at a friends house as I was fixing one of my Volvo V70's, and was not able to finish it before having minor surgery, I will keep it in mind and let you know.

That would be great Gilles! Hope you are doing fine and recovering well.
