Cost of lowering

Hi guys I am in need of help. I am requesting help for a good Porsche mechanic in Seattle or the Vancouver BC area. They want an arm and a leg for any work done in Vancouver BC (Wiessach). I bought some Eibach Pro Springs and the dealer here wants $800 for installation and alignment. The oil change is another $400. Any suggestions?

How much have you guys paid to install your springs and to do an alignment? I understand that the alignment is necessary after lowering.

Thanks!

$800 sounds cheap for a dealer, actually.

The $400 oil change is pretty excessive,

It cost an arm & leg to get any work done to a Porsche.

For a dealer to do the install & alignment that's actually a very good price.

Get the oil filter kit from www.************************************************************ along with some other basic maintainence(cabin filter, air filter) and get free shipping. The oil should cost another $60 and an hour to D.I.Y. with basic tools.

I understand that the alignment is necessary after lowering.

Yes you are right! Good luck!

This won't save any cash this time, but it might in the long run. A lot of shops offer alignment packages for 1, 3, or 5 years. If you plan on keeping the car for a while and drive it often, an alignment every six months or so is common. Tossing the cash out once and having it over with may help out...

why not do springs yourself, and then take the car in for alignment after u put the springs in?

hey 800 is reasonable. dealers usually charge 1000. i paid 800 and i've been told that it's not easy and takes time to do the rear. pay the 800 and you'll be very happy. i love driving lowered cars.

oil change for 400 isn't too bad through the dealer....i think. i went to a local porsche mechanic and paid 300.

$400 for oil change is obscene. Even the NYC dealer ($160/hr labor rate) quotes "only" $300. A CT dealer quoted $260. I changed mine at a lube shop. Quizzed the guy on proper torques and wrenches for the Box (passed with flying colors), brought my own filter, tipped the guy a $20 and got to watch him do it. $110 including the tip.

$400 for an oil change

9 quarts of mobile 1 $60
1 OEM porsche filter $15

The abililty/willingness to change your own oil...priceless

OMG! $400 for an oil change!

You HAVE to do this yourself. It is very easy to do. I can't bloody believe that anybody could look you straight in the face and say an oil change costs $400.

Yeah I Agree $400 For An Oil Change Is Toooo Much Anywhere. I Take My Car To Beverly Hills Porsche In Ca They Change My Oil For $125. Ive Got No Complaints.

i seriously think that you would have to be either extremely lazy, rich, or stupid to pay that muchfor an oil change

Hi,

Here's an example of extremely rich...

I have a friend/former business acquaintance who is heir to $4.3B of his family's estimated $38B empire (Hyatt Hotels, Royal Carribean Cruise Lines, TicketMaster to name a few...). With this much wealth, his absolute wealth swings wildly (due to Market fluctuations) daily, even hourly.

I once asked him: "Nick, it must be difficult to keep track of everything, but you must get one piece of paper monthly which has a Net, bottom line figure right?"

Nick replied: " I dunno, my accountants worry about that stuff..."

Now that's extremely rich... ;)

I bought my Boxster from these guys. Reasonable Porsche certified mechanics. In Bellingham, too. Just south of the Canadian border.

Thanks guys, I was basically just trying to find someone to do the springs as a priority. The oil I will take care of myself as it really is a rip off anywhere else. I guess I should mention that I was also qouting in Canadian dollars.

I'm just chocked as I have been accustomed to buying and installing springs on Japanese imports for about $400 all in!

In case I do not install my Eibach Pro Kit, would I be able to give sell these to a friend that has a 986? I have a 97 and I think these were off a 2000 S.

Thanks

If you installed springs on Japanese vehicles, you can easily install these onto the boxster. To be in all honesty, it wasn't that difficult for me to install my Eibach Pro-Kit springs and Bilstein Sport struts. The difficult part in the rear was the removal and installation of the axle bolts and the squeezing of the strut/spring assembly out and in to match with the strut hat bolts and to the lower control arm bolt. Most of it is associated with design and limited space to work.

Mind you this was all done on jackstands on my driveway. Of course with power tools.
