Scoring on the camshaft bearings
I found some scoring on the camshaft bearings that are beside the chain on bank 2 of my 2000 2.7 engine. All other bearings are perfect. The engine runs well.
I am replacing the cam chain tensioner pads and a couple of other things. I am hoping this is not a major problem and that I can put it back together as is. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1715561198.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1715561239.jpg |
I dont know much about metal ware, But at 87 K does not seem bad..?

What worries me is the bearing surface in the head, the last photo in the initial post. The other surfaces are smother and shinier.
These are the bearing caps (that are the top half of the bearing that I worry about... they look good. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1715957627.jpg and these surfaces at the other end of the camshaft are smooth and shiny. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1715957492.jpg Maybe I am panicking for nothing, but it is the first time I have noticed this on the four engines I have disassembled to this point. |
That's not an issue. And you can't fix it anyways, unless you replace the head.

I've seen worse, this is not an issue IMHO. There's a lot more to worry about in this engine :)
