Opinions about clutch kit ?
Hi guys
I have a 2002 S ( from Germany ) , with 80.000 km , and im thinking to chance the pressure with the clutch . The pedal is very hard , and its a little hard to drive in the city ! From Porsche here in Athens , told that is a pressure plate problem , but its better to chance together ( pressure plate and disk ) Its necessary to chance something else for smoother clutch pedal ? Who runs with any other kit , except the stock one? Which kit is more streetable ? |
Any non-stock kits will be higher pressure plates to give you a harder bite so all of the non-stock kits will actually be harder to push than the stock pressure plate. It is best to replace the pressure plate, clutch disc, release bearing and pilot bearing all at once to keep from having to replace one part later.

I had exactly this same problem (also in a 2002 Boxster S) until very recently when I had the service done on my car to replace all the parts that needed.
The clutch pedal was VERY stiff, and that was most likely due to a leaking clutch slave cylinder that was replaced. The feel of the clutch pedal travel was very grainy and rough, and that was due to the worn clutch disc and pressure plate that was affected. A new "clutch kit" was installed that included the clutch disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing, and some related parts. In my car, the worm clutch disc also scored the flywheel, so I had a new OEM dual-mass flywheel installed. The car drives like a dream now... and it's hard un-learning how I had to drive with that crappy clutch feel. |
If you have it apart replace everything, remember "New is Nice!" :)
