Differential leak
Dear All,
I`m tackling multiple issues on my tip boxster including chasing various oil leaks. Looks like the differential is also leaking on the right side, at the inner CV joint. The driveshaft is off. I guess there`s an oil seal here that could be replaced. Has any of you guys done this job? Is it easy to do from here or it requires to pull the transmission? There`s that torx head bolt in the center, looks like the shaft can be pulled out if I unbolt it, just making sure the internals won`t fall apart if I try to pull it out. Any input is appreciated. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1682284828.jpg http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1682284845.jpg |
Downloaded a manual for the tiptronic. Seems to be an easy fix. It`s #7.

It certainly looks that way!

I fixed the same problem and it was pretty easy. Getting the old seal was a bit of a problem till I got a seal puller.

My worry is that the oil leaks from the housing as well. But that seal is not too difficult to replace either. And I wonder how much of the oil is gone and what the gears look like inside. It`s been leaking for a while for sure.

That’s not, to me, a significant leak in terms of oil loss. Unless you’re seeing puddles on the garage floor, as with most leaks of this type, it looks worse than it is.
