Pilot Cup Sport Tires - Excessive Flats?

Hi --

I've been running Michelin Pilot Cup Sport 2 tires, and I've had three flats in 6+ years and 60K miles. That's probably about as many as I've had on all my previous cars, put together.

Anyone else have this problem?

I got them for autocross, but I'm not doing much of that anymore. Any suggestions for regular driving, plus canyons and stuff?

SC2s when new are half worn out - 4/32 of tread vs 7 or 9/32 for other tires. Objects you run over might just stick in a tread block of a "regular" tire but puncture your SC2 because of the thin tread block.

And if you've gotten 60K mi out of them, congratulations. That may be a record. They're basically gumball qualifying tires not designed for longevity.

No, no. 60K miles on the car. I'm not sure how many on this tire. 15K feels about right.

Thanks for the advice.

On my third set SC2, get around 6k miles from them, no flats yet.

I went with Pilot Super Sports for more all around performance. Great ride and traction but I don’t think they would last long on the track. I believe the New tire specification for the Carrera GT calls for them
