Water Pump seal

I had to replace my water pump,.when taking off the old one it had a paper seal and some RTV,.my new seal is metal,.the case is all cleaned up..should I use a tiny bit of sealant on the metal gasket or rely on the machined surface to be enough for a proper seal. Thank's !!.. Frank

PS. also changing to the 160 Deg Thermostat and it had the same gasket and sealant. !

No sealant if you are using the proper gasket.

Clean surface and metal gasket. Do NOT overtorque, you probably noticed it didn’t take much muscle to back the bolts.
