Stock replacements are very expensive, aftermarkets don't fit right. rebuild what you have.

I had a torn inner boot last year. After a lot of analysis I decided to buy a new Porsche transaxle. My other viable option was to rebuild. Having done this in the past with one of my 944s I just did not feel like dealing with it. I did not find a suitable non-OEM replacement. I think I posted some info on my replacement in the tech forum.

Thank You Gentlemen...appreciate the info,..local shop wants 400.00 to repack and boot 1 axle..?? Fair or not fair I bet I could do both axle's for probably 80.00 But I have never done that type..I have done some 914's ??

If you have done a 914 axle you can do the job.

You can find axle spares off wrecks for ~$200/pair, mileage will vary. That's what most do and I keep a spare set around so as not to ruin a race weekend.

Right now the boots are easy to get but the bands/clips to hold them on seem to be in short supply.

Do not buy any aftermarket units, they do not last. Used factory axles are much better.

Hey MaxD,..thanks for that thought that didn't even cross my mind I could buy some used ones then pack and boot then install...them...Cool Thanks !!:D

I bought FEQ shafts for all three of my 986S Boxsters through the years, never had any problem. bolt right up, perfect fit and good as new. Stock shafts are stupid expensive, but sold my used shafts to someone that wanted to rebuild them.
