Okay, forget my previous posts. I've got a new idea below:
(Size is off completely, just for illustration purposes.)

It consists of a waterproof solenoid valve:

A BSP threaded barrel nipple cut in half for the two ends

And some thick clamps for the joins

All to go on this section of my bypass:

Nice and simple. I'll probably fashion a heat shield for the solenoid itself, but should be okay. Any issues anyone can see? Can't see why this wouldn't work.

Also, apologies for the deleted posts - if an admin could remove them, that would be grand.

Is the solenoid heat resistant?

Up to 100 degrees, so need to measure temps. The metal is fine, and I can't imagine that area of the bumper would reach 100, nor the pipes themselves as they're just bypasses.

Going to go for a drive soon and will measure it.

Cool idea!

I've seen someone use a turbo wastegate as an exhaust valve in this same manner. On a Volvo of all things.

Just measured temps after a run to the shops and back, 315 degrees. I've scrapped the idea unfortunately.

The exhaust is booked in when lockdown is over to get some seals welded, so I'll ask him about plumbing in pipes similar to the original PSE, but after the 2" vacuum valves, I'll ask him to reduce to 1". I like the sound as is and wouldn't want to change it, plus it'll be a tight fit for the facelift bumper.

They make 2" and bigger electric exhaust dumps and manual cable control ones.

You could block off the dump part.
