wifey now has a 2002 S. black/black/black + tip. 17k miles.
problems: top is noisy...cables?...motor?
smells like burnt oil when parked. i checked the engine and can't find anything obvious. must be a small leak that hits the exhaust on the passenger side. otherwise, very fun to drive!

silverbox, it sounds like the same problem I had. The oil filler tube was cracked and it dripped down on the passenger side exhaust manifold. Check it out.

I picked up my 01' 986 S w/ 51k on it.
It now has 55k on 6 months of me owning it.
When I bought it I got a super low price because it needed ALOT of maintenance and wear and teat work

-R.M.S.
-I.M.S. & flange kit(not 100% sure what this was)
-Clutch kit
-Flywheel
-4 C.V. Boots
-Front Passenger Wheel Bearing
-Oil & filter change included(not considered a repair though)

The last owner was gone in Iraq for the past 3 years and the shop said that the car sitting so long was probably the reason for the R.M.S & I.M.S. leaking and C.V. boots cracking. Got all done at once for $3k,luckily all of the problems wear closely related and once the tranny was removed or being installed all the parts were removed and replaced(except the front wheel bearing)

My center radiator was leaking very very slowely at the inlet connection point with the hose. It was more of an annoyance if anything. I ordered a new radiator thinking it was the problem, but the clamp was just loose. $140 D.I.Y. for the new center radiator

After all this was done the car has been AMAZING!
