Motul cured white smoke at start up.
 

Just incase anyone else suffered from this condition. Mine smoked at cold start ups only. Was planning to replace the AOS, but no abnormal suction when removing the oil cap? Was planning to change the aos anyway if it kept on, but after after an oil change with Motul, the white smoke has went away for good!! I did see another comment on it doing the same for someone else somewhere when I was researching which oil to go with. But if anyone suffers from this and new aos did not fix it is worth a try?

The pic is where I first heard of it. Was not the reason I chose Motul, but an added bonus! In a quick google search sounds like the 2 stroke motorcycle racing world touts Motuls low smoke properties??

Maybe an oil guru can give some better rationale, but my results were amazing!! After a week went from huge clouds of white smoke on cold starts to none!

Similar results for me as well. Switched to Motul several years ago and to my surprise cold starts as well as starts after sitting idle for several days yield no smoke. Don't know why just posting my results as well. I do change oil religiously at 3k miles as well. All of my Blackstone results have improved numbers over the years. Go figure...

Just guessing, "condensation" may cause white smoke at start up, nothing to do with oil. Second guess and a more serious issue is coolant leaking into piston chambers, but again nothing to do with oil.

I am a huge fan of Motul. It's the only oil I will use in any of my motorcycles or lawn equipment just for the low smoke and general service life. The engines seem to run a lot more quiet as well. I've never used it in any autos though. I run LiquiMoly in the Boxster.

At the advice of my indy mechanic, I have been running Motul for several years and I track my car. I have never has a smoke problem even before switching to Motul. One advantage is a higher temp sheer for the oil. There is always the snake oil, DT-40 LOL

That's all I use.

I switched to Motul and never went back to anything else. It's been great for all my cars.

+1 been using Motul 8100 xcess for years now. 5W40 seems to be the sweet spot for these engines

Motul, wow, surprise surprise. I use the 300V for a superbike engine (high temp) but never thought about this line of oil for a large engine. Motul = gummy stuff when cold, no? Not exactly the cheapest of them all also :/

Amazon!! Not much more than mobile 1, and recommended by my indy who only works on porsche and exotics. Supposed to be a true full synthetic.

Sure. Easy for you guys in the states to get the stuff at a reasonable price. Add +30% import tax and the +15% re-seller prime over that retail price :/

Best oil money can buy no doubt there, in fact if you rev a hot engine that Motul racing line is what you want. Track bike knocks down a good -8 to -10dC over any other oil we've tried, that-is-a-LOT btw. Only disadvantage is its just really sticky at cold starts, can't rev this before 55~60dC also (can't have it all I guess).

I'll have a look see I can get into that 8100 reasonably priced. Worth a try, I'm sure.

Motul should be easily available in Canada now. There are a lot more distributors and retailers carrying Motul. A number of years ago, it was a different story. One can easily pick up Motul from most independent repair shops specializing in Porsche, and what have you. There is a small cost differential compared to way back when. It was hard to get when I wanted to run Motul on my E36 M3 when I had it, but that was 5+ years ago, and I had to order it from the US. I've had no issues with any kind of starting on my E36, 996, or 986. Might be a motorcycle thing, but I could be wrong (been out of the game for too long!)

Bike's gearbox shares the same casting as the crank and everything else, lots of rotating and moving potential for gummyness there lol You could be right. I swear the first cold start-up feels like the batt is half dead with that oil. But again, best oil I've used so far, really keeps the temp low compared to many others I've tried (hrc, 15,500RPM, mind you). Thanks and hope you get back in the game soon :cool:
