Rennline brake and clutch pedal thoughts
Okay first let me say thanks to Jaykay for the rennline pedal set. They arrived okay.
Now as far as the pedals are concerned they are simple and look good on a shelf. But IMHO do not belong on a 986 that is driven let alone near a track. When I removed the rubber cover from the brake it became apparent when I held the Rennline cover up for fitment that it clearly rocked side to side. This was caused by a pedal that has a vertical high spot running through it as can be seen in the image attached. What this means is that the cover will not lay flat against this pedal. In order to have a level pedal the bolts will actually be loaded from a gap between the cover and pedal. In my opinion the cover should be 100% supported with the screws only holding the cover in position on the pedal and not subject to any force. The problem is any force to the cover has a lever and fulcrum effect that is transferred to the screws and could lead to failure. Because of the horizontal radius in the pedal face it is impossible to bend the cover to lay flat. The options then are to install washers between the cover and pedal or grind off the offending vertical hump in the pedal. The stock brake and throttle pedal position are great in my opinion. In sedate city driving the brake tends to be a little high, but on the track and more sporty heel and toe braking in the city, when you push the brake down hard, your foot is positioned perfectly to easily blip the throttle.

Hey man......sorry you are unhappy. I have seen these on Singers and other builds so I assume that they a fairly good quality pieces. I have another set of Rennlines on my car.
Boxster clutch pedal is plastic yes plastic so there is some degree of compliance when mounting them. As I recall, I think I chose my hole positions very carefully to get the flatest orientation possible and then used washers to take up space.....the pedal material is so soft that it will comply to the pedal for the most part and you likely not need this. On the clutch especially make sure you use washers behind the nuts. The brake pedal is a very rough finished piece of metal and nothing will fit flat on it. I think I recall dressing the ridge down the middle of it and then bolting the pedal down left and right. I am pretty sure I only used two screws to avoid problems on the brake pedal.....it is so long ago though Try adjusting the elevation of the pedal as well such that the two curvatures match. |

Wow, sorry to hear that you're having issues.
I have had Rennline pedal covers for 6 years and 150+ track days (including 60+ races) and they have worked perfect for me. I don't have any flex or slop in the attachment, they are attached as solid as a rock. http://986forum.com/forums/uploads02...1537758052.jpg |
Thanks to all the responses. Jaykay not unhappy just unimpressed. The real issue lies with Porsche's decision to use a cast part. The high ridge is actually the casting parting line that was not ground down flat. This could vary from pedal to pedal. Can't expect Rennline to accomodate an inferior finish when their covers are a universal fit part. Typical Porsche brake levers are a solid steel bar with a plate welded on it. I have attached a link to a 997 pedal that is constructed as I would expect. In fact if it could be replaced easily I'd buy it, but I'm not sure you could get that pedal out with a cutting torch. And PLASTIC....:rolleyes:
Just wanted anyone contemplating these covers to know they may require additional work to make right. Now I do like those SRP pedals. PN for reference 997-423-091-03 |
