Alternative Oil pressure location: I stripped the left side port
Well, I screwed up. I could not get the torx bolt out on the left side of the engine to install my oil pressure/temp sensors:ah:. Is there another location I can use?
Cheers, Stu |
I had a very hard time with mine too, I had to use an "easy out", like a reverse drill, into the hex slot and back.it out after I stripped mine. Once it breaks loose it comes right out. I can dig out the exact one I used but it was just part of a set I got at Lowe's or home depot.

Sorry to hear. Same problem here too. Those plugs are aluminum and strip easily. I think I just found a slightly larger torx or hex bit and smacked it then backed it off. Kind of like a red neck easy out:cheers:
Are you going to install pressure/temp in same location? That's going to be difficult. Temp needs some flow over it, pressure does not. I ended up using the stock pressure switch location for my temp gauge sending unit (VDO), but that unit also had a 7 psi pressure switch that I wire up to the wire from the instrument cluster low pressure oil light, so I did not loose that light. I also installed a remote oil filter and Accusump, so that allows me extra ports to install more sensors. I can get you P/Ns if you want. |
For oil pressure, I replaced my stock dummy light sender with a 996 sender, has leads for both pressure and the light. I haven’t done temp yet, there seems to be a few options, but the left bank seems to be the most popular. I’d probably just easy out the plug. Going to replace it anyway, no worries.
